I have to talk about the stone I found. Maybe this is what lures a person into collecting. Starting with research. For once I went to a place and knew ahead of time what to look for. Where the good turquoise comes from. What is valuable, what is collectable.
But, ultimately, none of that matters. What matters is when a rock speaks to you. I saw it mostly with Kate, my cousin when she first saw a piece of Boulder turquoise from the Royston Mine. And then I saw the necklace that I fell in love with. It’s not a blue turquoise, but a brown, earthy stone. Just a splash of blue. Maybe it does attract because it’s different. Maybe simply because it’s beautiful.
I am still not sure what draws me about this world of jewelry and gemstones. It’s not glitter. It’s not about money. It’s about something from the earth that holds a bit of magic, a bit of mystique, a bit of history inside it.
